The Alcott Group (Farmingdale, NY and Buffalo, NY), one of New York State's most prominent Professional Employer Organizations (PEO), announced the appointment of Robert Chanin, SPHR as Director of Human Resources. Mr. Chanin, a 26-year business and Human Resources professional, will oversee Alcott's broad scope of HR programs and services on behalf of its over 350 affiliated companies and their over 4,500 employees. He brings to the role in-depth expertise relating to employee compensation and benefits, recruitment and training, regulatory compliance, organizational management and employee relations. During his career, he has had the opportunity to apply his skills to the small business community as well as large organizations.
Before joining Alcott, Mr. Chanin held various consulting assignments on behalf of The Bank of New York (New York, NY), specifically in the area of Human Resources Recruiter/Generalist. While in this consulting role, he was responsible for the servicing and recruiting of exempt and non-exempt staff involving a large range of operational departments of the Bank.
He has also provided consulting services for small businesses within the Retail and Service sector, where he provided human resources and business solutions to small and medium-sized companies, including recruitment, benefits, compensation and employee relations. As a consultant, his achievements were many, including a significant reduction in operating expenses, savings in purchasing expenses, savings in invoicing costs, and increase in cash flow.
Mr. Chanin's professional career also includes the role of Director of Human Resources for Lambda Electronics, Inc. (Melville, NY). His accomplishments included the successful revitalization of the company's corporate culture and the effective alignment of recruitment, compensation, benefits, employee relations, training and organizational development with strategic goals of expanding Lambda's global business and market share. He is credited with having facilitated a cultural shift to Total Quality Management (TQM) and training over 1200 employees in Continuous Improvement methods for a Lean Manufacturing/Enterprise environment. Additionally, his leadership with the Wellness Health Benefits program initiative resulted in a measurable cost ratio reduction of premiums.
Other positions held by Mr. Chanin include: Division Personnel Manager for Veeco Instruments, Inc. (Plainview, NY) and Employee Relations Administrator for Hazeltine Corporation (Greenlawn, NY).
Mr. Chanin holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the State University of New York at Albany (Albany, NY) and an MBA in Management-Human Resources from Adelphi University (Garden City, NY). His professional training also includes the successful completion of the Leadership Bridge VOICES Development Coaching program; Ernst & Young's Quality Training Programs of Team Building, Facilitator Training and Train the Trainer Programs; Ashridge Management College's U.K. Management Development Program; American Compensation Association's Pay Structure, Pay Rate and Quantitative Analysis Program, and Cornell University's NY State School of Labor Relations' EEO Studies Program.
Mr. Chanin holds the PHR certification which is awarded by the Human Resources Certification Institute affiliated with the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). The certification signifies that Mr. Chanin possesses the theoretical knowledge and practical experience necessary to pass a rigorous examination demonstrating his high proficiency within the field of human resource management. He is a member of SHRM.
